Privacy Policy

Safety Network, Inc. ("Safety Network," "we," "our," or "us") operates the website at joinsafetynetwork.com and the member application at app.joinsafetynetwork.com (collectively, the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and what rights you have over it.

By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

1 Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Account information: Name, email address, password, and membership tier selection.
  • Profile information: Professional background, job title, employer, and any information you include in your member profile.
  • Résumé and career documents: Files you upload to the Platform for use in the career network, job applications, or referral requests.
  • Job postings: Role titles, descriptions, and contact information you submit when posting an open position.
  • Community content: Comments, messages, referral requests, and introductions you post or send through the Platform.
  • Support requests: Information you submit when requesting community support during a qualifying layoff, including employment status, layoff documentation, and financial need details.
  • Payment information: Billing details, including credit or debit card information, processed through our payment processor Stripe. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Community contributions: Records of your voluntary monthly contributions to the member support pool.
  • Communications: Messages you send to us directly, including support tickets and feedback.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: Pages visited, features used, time spent on the Platform, and clickstream data.
  • Device and browser information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers.
  • Log data: Server logs recording requests, errors, and session activity.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: See Section 6 for details.

1.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Payment processors: Stripe provides us with transaction confirmations, payment status, and fraud signals. We do not receive your full card number.
  • Authentication providers: If you sign in using a third-party service (e.g., Google), we receive basic profile information consistent with your authorization.

2 How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide the Platform: Creating and managing your account, processing contributions and payouts, facilitating referrals and introductions, and delivering the features included in your membership tier.
  • To process support requests: Evaluating eligibility, coordinating community support distributions, and maintaining records required for tax reporting (including 1099-K issuance where applicable).
  • To process payments: Billing your subscription, processing voluntary contributions, and issuing payouts through Stripe.
  • To operate the career network: Matching job postings with member profiles, facilitating referral requests, and enabling introductions between members.
  • To communicate with you: Sending account notifications, membership updates, policy changes, and responses to your inquiries.
  • To improve the Platform: Analyzing usage patterns, diagnosing technical issues, and developing new features.
  • To enforce our Terms of Service: Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, or violations of our community standards.
  • To comply with legal obligations: Fulfilling tax reporting requirements, responding to lawful requests from government authorities, and maintaining records as required by applicable law.

3 How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

3.1 With Other Members (Limited)

  • Your profile information (name, title, employer, and any details you choose to include) is visible to other members of the Platform as part of the career network.
  • Job postings you submit are visible to other members.
  • Referral requests and introductions are shared with the relevant parties you designate.
  • Community contribution status (e.g., streak standing) may be visible to other members in aggregated or anonymized form to support community trust features. We do not display the specific dollar amount of your contributions to other members without your consent.
  • Support request details (e.g., that a member has an active support request) may be disclosed to the member community in anonymized or aggregate form. Identifying details are not shared with individual members.

3.2 With Service Providers

We share information with third-party vendors who process it on our behalf, under confidentiality obligations, including:

  • Supabase: Database hosting and backend infrastructure.
  • Vercel: Application hosting and content delivery.
  • Stripe: Payment processing, contribution handling, and payout disbursement.

We do not currently use third-party analytics, advertising, or marketing automation platforms. If this changes, this policy will be updated.

3.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation, court order, or valid government request;
  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of Safety Network, our members, or the public;
  • Detect, investigate, or prevent fraud or security incidents.

3.4 Business Transfers

If Safety Network is involved in a merger, acquisition, asset sale, or bankruptcy, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on the Platform before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

4 Tax Reporting

If you receive community support payments through the Platform, we may be required to issue IRS Form 1099-K or other applicable tax forms. We collect your name, address, and taxpayer identification number (such as a Social Security Number or EIN) solely for this purpose. This information is handled with heightened care and is not used for any other purpose. We recommend consulting a tax professional regarding how support payments may affect your individual tax situation.

5 Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Platform. Specific retention periods:

  • Account and profile data: Retained for the duration of your membership and for up to 3 years after account closure, to support dispute resolution and legal compliance.
  • Payment and contribution records: Retained for 7 years in accordance with financial recordkeeping requirements.
  • Support request records: Retained for 7 years to support tax reporting obligations and legal compliance.
  • Résumés and uploaded documents: Retained while your account is active. You may delete uploaded documents at any time through your account settings.
  • Usage logs: Retained for up to 12 months.

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Section 8). Some data may be retained longer where required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.

6 Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Maintain your authenticated session;
  • Remember your preferences;
  • Analyze Platform usage for operational improvement.

We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect your ability to log in or use certain features.

7 Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest;
  • Access controls limiting employee access to personal data;
  • Use of reputable, SOC 2-compliant infrastructure providers (Supabase, Vercel, Stripe).

No system is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never circumvent our security measures. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at privacy@joinsafetynetwork.com.

In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

8 Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

8.1 All Users

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your account and personal information, subject to retention obligations described in Section 5.
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Opt-out of communications: Unsubscribe from non-essential emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email or through your account settings.

8.2 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act:

  • Right to Know: You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources from which it was collected, the purposes for collection, and the categories of third parties with whom it is shared.
  • Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. No opt-out is required, but you may contact us to confirm this.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
  • Sensitive Personal Information: We collect certain sensitive personal information (specifically, financial account details processed through Stripe and government-issued identifiers collected for tax reporting). We use this information only for the purposes described in this policy and do not use it for inferring characteristics about you.

To exercise your California rights, submit a request to privacy@joinsafetynetwork.com. We will respond within 45 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

8.3 EEA, UK, and Swiss Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under applicable data protection law, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability.

Legal bases for processing: We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance: To provide the Platform and fulfill your membership agreement.
  • Legal obligation: To comply with tax reporting and other legal requirements.
  • Legitimate interests: To improve the Platform, prevent fraud, and ensure security, where these interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent: Where we have asked for and received your consent (e.g., optional communications).

International transfers: Your data is hosted in the United States. If you are located outside the U.S., your data will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., which may have different data protection standards than your country. We rely on appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses where required, for such transfers.

To exercise your rights or lodge a complaint, contact us at privacy@joinsafetynetwork.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

9 Children's Privacy

The Platform is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us at privacy@joinsafetynetwork.com.

10 Third-Party Links

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or services, including job postings that direct to external sites. This policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

11 Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and by posting a prominent notice on the Platform at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

We will maintain a version history of this policy accessible upon request.
